The USA is having major problems with two Muslim countries at the moment
- Pakistan and Iran. They both have large militarises and lots of
weapons, so if it wants to win the USA can only fight them one at a time.

I suspect the USA is planning to attack Pakistan first, for selling its
sovereignty to Al Qaeda and killing people in Afghanistan, so Iran will
not be invaded for about 4 years.

This will give Saudi Arabia time to make allies from the US military,
Britain, Iraq, Israel and possible Afghanistan. Weapons can be
purchased, soldiers trained and bases built.

Minor punishments may occur before then.

Doubtful.

Pakistan has nuclear weapons and an assortment of highly trained and
well equipped terror groups who would all need fighting at once and a
close military alliance with China.

Iran is both monolithic and without nukes or significant friends.

It also has less than half the population and the terrain is easier to
fight over.

Iran is probably not too big a stretch, Pakistan could well be.
